Classic Caprese Recipe – Tomatoes, Mozzarella & High-Quality Balsamic
Simple, honest, and full of flavor: Caprese is a true classic of Italian cuisine. Ripe tomatoes, creamy mozzarella, fresh basil, and high-quality olive oil – refined with a good, aged balsamic make this dish a true moment of indulgence.
Ingredients for 2–4 people
- 4–5 ripe tomatoes (preferably vine tomatoes)
- 2 balls of buffalo mozzarella
- fresh basil
- 4–5 tablespoons high-quality olive oil
- 2–3 tablespoons good, aged balsamic (Aceto Balsamico Tradizionale or high-quality balsamic)
- coarse sea salt
- freshly ground black pepper
Preparation
1. Prepare the ingredients
Slice the tomatoes evenly. Drain the mozzarella well and slice it as well.
2. Arrange
Arrange the tomatoes and mozzarella alternately on a plate, creating a beautiful, classic pattern. Distribute fresh basil leaves in between.
3. Refine
Drizzle generously with high-quality olive oil. Then sparingly drizzle the aged balsamic over it – less is more here, as good balsamic is intense and sweet.
4. Season
Season with coarse sea salt and freshly ground pepper and serve immediately.
Tip for the perfect Caprese
The key to a truly good Caprese lies in the quality of the ingredients. Especially a real, aged balsamic (ideally long-aged and thick) elevates the dish to a whole new level and provides a fine sweetness and depth.
